Warning issued over weight loss pill

3rd February 2011

The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has warned people to stop using a weight loss pill sold over the internet and in Chinese medicine shops.

The MHRA warning about Herbal Flos Lonicerae (Herbal Xenicol) says anyone taking the product should stop immediately and contact a doctor. This follows reports of side effects such as palpitations, with one patient needing hospital treatment. Tests are under way to find out more about the cause of the side effects, with fears that the capsules may contain an as yet unknown pharmaceutical substance.
