Water coolers health warning

2nd March 2009

Watchdog body Consumer Focus Scotland has warned that dirty water coolers may be putting people's health at risk.

It said that 23 out of 87 samples from dispensers in Edinburgh and the Lothian and Borders region showed bacterial contamination with coolers in leisure centres, offices, care homes and schools among those to fail the tests. Most failed because of bacterial contamination and now, the watchdog wants the safety rules tightened up after finding the bacteria had the potential to cause illness among the frail or those already suffering ill-health.
