We need a minister for healthy eating
6th November 2008Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has warned MPs that Britain needs a dedicated minister for food to prevent an obesity "horror show" from enveloping the country.
During a 90-minute appearance before the Commons Health Select Committee, he said a new food minister would need a budget of about £6.5bn, 10 times the £650m spread over six years that was handed to the chef's school dinners campaign. He would not accept the job himself but would be willing to act as a headhunter for the government to find the right person.
