Wearside doctor suspended

9th January 2007

A doctor from Durham has been arrested over the death of a patient.

Dr Vijay Anand Harikrishnan, 27, was released on bail following questioning by Northumbria Police.  He has been suspended from Sunderland Royal Hospital, pending the investigation into the death of Vincent Morris, 75, at the hospital last September.

Mr Morris, from Grangetown, Sunderland, was a stroke patient who had been in a coma since April 2006.  Dr Harikrishnan was arrested after the coroner requested an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Morris’ death.

The enquiry continues.
