Wirral face privacy backlash

28th August 2008

Wirral Primary Care Trust has delayed plans to introduce a telephone support service provided by a US contractor.

The decision follows opposition to the plans, which would see extracts of patient records transferred to a private company. The proposed new health coaching service, called Wirral Keep Well and provided by Health Dialog UK, provides targeted phone advice and support services for people with long-term conditions such as diabetes and asthma. However, the PCT has been criticised for failing to consult patients on the plans.
