Wolverhampton FT bid fails

3rd October 2012

Monitor has deferred the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals Trust’s bid for foundation trust status.

The decision follows a recent Care Quality Commission inspection which found that essential standards were not being met at the hospital. Director of nursing and midwifery at the trust Cheryl Etches said the organisation was disappointed by Monitor’s decision but added that the trust was “absolutely confident” no patient had been put at risk as a result of the concerns identified by the CQC with trust managers now regularly carrying out unannounced spot checks on surgical teams to address any issues.
