Woman with huge cyst told she had IBS

16th December 2009

A woman who had a cyst which grew to the size of two newborn babies and reached 17lb in weight was told she had Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Janet Delaney’s cyst went undiagnosed despite three visits to Wythenshawe Hospital casualty unit in Greater Manchester and it was only when she insisted on an ultrasound a month later that the ovarian cyst was uncovered. A spokeswoman for University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust said the hospital would be happy to review Ms Delaney’s case at a meeting with her.
