Yoghurts used to fight superbugs

A hospital trust in Sussex is using probiotic yoghurt in a trial to help cut the risk of patients developing superbug infections.

Free pots of yoghurts containing “friendly bacteria� are being handed out to patients at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal in Haywards Heath on wards where there have been higher cases of Clostridium difficile after evidence indicated that the yoghurt could cut the risk of the infection. The hospital says it will be evaluating the difference the move has made to the number of cases.
