Young boy with brain tumour must have surgery

19th December 2012

A High Court judge has ruled that a seven-year-old boy must have surgery for a brain tumour, against the wishes of his mother.

The boy's mother had been taking legal action against him having radiotherapy after he had surgery for his condition last year. She went into hiding with her son at the beginning of the month because she feared radiotherapy could cause him to suffer brain damage. However, the court was told the boy needed surgery because residual parts of the tumour remained and he would die without treatment.
