Cancer is a specialist area of medicine. This means that not all hospitals treat every type of cancer. To help people with cancer or suspected cancer receive the best treatment and care, cancer networks have been set up across the country to bring together cancer services across a geographic area.
This cancer network, which serves a population of nearly one million, covers the Ipswich, Chelmsford and Colchester areas and includes cancer services provided by three acute hospital Trusts, eight primary care trusts and three hospices. There are 34 networks in England.
