The Yorkshire and the Humber Strategic Health Authority was created on 1st July 2006 following the merger of North and East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire Strategic Health Authority, South Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority and West Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority.

Yorkshire and the Humber is one of 10 new Strategic Health Authorities in England, created on 1st July 2006 and covers a population of 5,038,849.

The Strategic Health Authority is the local headquarters of the NHS. As the name suggests, our role is strategic, rather than providing services or hands on management of local organisations.
