The new Strategic Health Authority, NHS West Midlands is one of 10 new Strategic Health Authorities that came into effect on July 1st 2006 as part of Commissioning a Patient-led NHS.
NHS West Midlands was created following a reconfiguration of three previous Strategic Health Authorities: Shropshire and Staffordshire, Birmingham & The Black Country and West Midlands South.
On behalf of the Department of Health, the NHS West Midlands is responsible for the strategic development of NHS organisations within the West Midlands region.
